Anthony Hewitt & Martin Roscoe play concert for St Mary's Hospice

St Mary’s Hospice is delighted to announce a four hands concert by internationally renowned pianists Anthony Hewitt & Martin Roscoe at Holker Hall, Cark-in-Cartmel. The concert, to be given on Friday 30th April 2010; at the kind invitation of, and with generous support from, Lord and Lady Cavendish, will mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the hospice and Lord Cavendish’s contribution over many years.

Anthony Hewitt, who was born in Ulverston, is the founding Artistic Director of the Ulverston International Music Festival. He has a reputation as a pianist of formidable interpretative and technical ability. His engagements have included playing with the RPO, the Northern Chamber Orchestra and sinfonia ViVA in the UK, and the National Symphony Orchestra and Princeton Symphony Orchestra in the USA.

Martin Roscoe, who lives near Ulverston, studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music. His many awards include the Davas Gold Medal in 1973 and the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians in 1974. He has performed with all the major orchestras, developing strong links with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, with whom he has given over eighty performances.

St Mary’s is delighted that, as a foretaste of their two piano concert at the Ulverston International Music Festival in June, the acclaimed pianists have agreed to play at Holker to raise funds for hospice services.

They will play: Mozart’s Andante & Variations in G K52; Schubert’s Fantasie in F Minor; Brahms’ 5 Hungarian Dances; Petite Suite by Debussy; Ravel’s Mother Goose and the Fauré Dolly Suite.

Tickets, £20 to include a glass of wine and canapés, are available from St Mary’s Hospice on 01229 580305 or at the hospice shops. For further information visit www.stmaryshospice.org

Celebrations for Recognition of Volunteer Support

Recognition of Volunteer Contribution Afternoon Tea

St Mary’s would like to thank everyone who attended the afternoon tea and tree planting on Friday 26th March. This celebration was to honour and thank Margaret and Vilma for their 20 years of voluntary help and support to St Mary’s Hospice, in particular their service to the Ulverston drop-in group. The hospice would not have been able to provide this valuable service without them. We wish them all the best for their future.

Margaret and Vilma planted two trees, a Flowering Crab Apple and a Cotoneaster, in the Hospice garden.
