Celebrations for Recognition of Volunteer Support

Recognition of Volunteer Contribution Afternoon Tea

St Mary’s would like to thank everyone who attended the afternoon tea and tree planting on Friday 26th March. This celebration was to honour and thank Margaret and Vilma for their 20 years of voluntary help and support to St Mary’s Hospice, in particular their service to the Ulverston drop-in group. The hospice would not have been able to provide this valuable service without them. We wish them all the best for their future.

Margaret and Vilma planted two trees, a Flowering Crab Apple and a Cotoneaster, in the Hospice garden.

Sports Stars Strut their Stuff for Charity

St Mary's in Partnership with Debenhams - Ladies Evening and Fashion Show 2010

We were delighted that so many people flocked to the Nines in Dalkeith Street, Barrow on Thursday 18th March for our special ladies evening and fashion show in partnership with Debenhams, Barrow.

Big attractions were stars from Barrow AFC – Stuart Tomlinson, Tim Deasy and Andy Bond who swapped the football pitch for the catwalk. While Barrow Raiders’ Brett McDermott, Nathan Mossop and Zeb Luisi strutted their stuff to help raise funds for St Mary’s.

A host of volunteer models showcased examples of clothing available from the hospice shops as well as ensembles from Debenhams.

Zoe Guest, fund-raising and operations manager said “£1,750 was raised for the hospice.”

“It was a wonderful evening and it was nice to see the event being so well supported. We were trying to encourage people to shop at our charity shops and demonstrate how good recycled clothes can be. We wanted to show that you can pick up excellent bargains at the St Mary’s shops and we wanted to get away from the negative image that second hand clothes have. When we blended the outfits in with the ones from Debenhams people were shocked when it was announced the clothes were from the hospice shops.”

Hairdressers from Paul French Hair Salon in Barrow were on hand to style the models hair and teams from Debenhams provided the make-up. Lisa Hart compared the evening and Girlband gave their first live performance since their formation earlier this month.

The team has worked so hard over the last few weeks to make the event special and we were over-whelmed with the amazing response on the night. We would once again like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success.
